Dear Students and Parents,

Reading is one of the most important skills your child will learn in school.  Here at Dollahan we want to encourage a love of reading. Our library provides a wide variety of books for students to borrow for reading practice, information and enjoyment.  Your students will visit the library once a week with their class; they will also have time at their recess to visit the library.  We also provide ample time before and after school for parents to enjoy the library and borrow books for their student/s.

There will be a few changes to the library this school year. We will be focusing library use on reading and borrowing books.  Students will no longer be taking AR tests in the library; instead they will be taking them in class, so teachers can monitor how each student is doing. We have reduced the number of computers in the library to 2; these computers will be used for checking in books and using the library catalog.  We now have a drop box with locks outside of the library. Please feel free to return books in the box; it will be checked every morning and afternoon.

Borrowing library books is a privilege, and students are expected to be responsible in the library and with the library books.

  • Students are responsible to handle library books with care, since they are for everyone to share. Please keep books away from pets, food, and all liquids.
  • Any book damage should be reported to the library as soon as possible so we can attempt repairs.
  • Library books may be kept for one week, or two weeks for chapter books, then must be returned. A book may be renewed (checked out again) if the student is not finished reading it. An overdue (late) book means a student cannot borrow another book (until the overdue book is renewed or returned).
  • If a book is lost, payment toward a replacement will be requested from the parents.
  • If your family plans to move from Dollahan Elementary, please return all books before moving.

We hope your student will read and enjoy many books and develop better reading skills while attending

Dollahan Elementary School.
